I'm running for Attorney General in Maryland to make our communities safe for you and your family.
The government’s 100-year old war on Americans who use drugs is an abysmal failure and has made things worse.
The War on Drugs drives up crime -- home invasions, theft, and drive-by shootings -- causing senseless loss of precious, innocent lives.
It denies people suffering from cancer, AIDS, and a host of other serious diseases their right to obtain the best treatment possible to relieve their suffering and save their lives using medical marijuana.
It discriminates against minorities who are subjected to racial profiling.
Thousands of drug "offenders" who never harmed another person are wasting away in prison, separated from their families, and costing taxpayers millions of dollars every year.
Furthermore, the War on Drugs has failed to stop drug use. Kids can get their hands on dangerous drugs today more easily than they can get alcohol -- because drug dealers don't ask for ID. Both the Alcohol Prohibition and the Drug Prohibition have proven that prohibitions don’t work.
My opponents want this dysfunction, suffering and injustice to continue. They have breached their duty as public servants to protect the lives, liberty and property of our citizens.
As your Attorney General, I will do everything in my power to end the failed and deadly War on Drugs immediately.
I will work tirelessly to end the arrest, prosecution and incarceration of non-violent drug "offenders" who have harmed no one else.
This will close down the black market drug trade and dramatically reduce crime in our state.
It will rapidly pave the way for full legalization of medical marijuana, allowing dignified relief to those suffering from serious disease.
Young students will no longer be threatened with losing their financial aid or being denied admission to colleges for being caught with a joint.
We'll end injustices and save taxpayers millions of dollars every year when we release thousands of prisoners now serving time for non-violent crimes. They will be free to get productive jobs and support their families. Their young children will get to grow up with their moms and dads at home.
Ending the failed Drug Prohibition will promote personal responsibility and make our communities safe.
Please vote for me this November -- so I can make Maryland safe, just and free for you.
